Giwa FC goalkeeper dies after two-year battle with spinal cord injury

Nigeria Premier League club Giwa FC have lost its goalkeeper Timothy Chichi Okere after a two-year battle with spinal cord injury.

The goalkeeper died on Wednesday.

According to report on All Nigeria Soccer, he sustained a back injury in training two years ago and was hospitalized at Bima hospital in Jos, was later discharged but readmitted following a relapse.

Okere was in goal throughout Giwa’ s campaign in the Nigeria National League and played a leading role towards helping the team gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier League three years ago, but later lost his first team shirt to Flying Eagles goaltender Ojo Olorunleke at the commencement of the team’ s campaign.
