Abia Warriors hold Sunshine Stars in Akure

Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia started the second phase of the Nigeria Professional Football League on a good note with a hard- fought 1-1 draw against Sunshine Stars in Akure.

After a goalless first half, Rasaq Adegbite netted the opener for the home team in the 58th minute following a mix- up in the Warriors’ defence but former Sunshine Stars defender, Emmanuel Olowo swept in the equaliser 19 minutes later to infuriate his former employers.

Abia Warriors had the opportunity to take all the available three points when they caught their hosts on the counter late on but lacked the needed coordination in front of goal to make hay.

In his reaction, Boboye thanked God for the result insisting that his boys gave it their all.

The Ondo state-born tactician who led Sunshine Stars to a 6th place finish in the top flight last season, assured the Warriors supporters that better days laid ahead.

On his own, Ogbeide lamented the dropped points at home adding that he was not satisfied with some aspects of the officiating.
