Nassarawa United Coach, Kabiru Dogo, has expressed worry over the team’s current form and performances in the on-going league.
Dogo made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lafia.
Nasarawa United is currently placed 15th on the league table with 24 points at the end of week 19 matches.
Dogo said that the team’s engagement in the CAF Confederation Cup and change of some players might have affected their domestic campaign.
He also attributed their position a little above the relegation zone to fatigue and a congested fixture.
“Honestly as the coach, I am not satisfied with the performance of my boys compared to what we achieved last season.
“Anybody working in life always prays for success but with what I have seen so far, our form really bothers me,” he said.
The Coach, however, vowed to change the fortunes of the team in the second stanza of the league by building mental strength, showing character and resilience, especially in away fixtures.
“At this time last season, we struggled and were around this position but we managed to change our destiny by improving our play. I want to assure you things will change in the second round.
According to Dogo, “the management and fans will not be happy to watch us fighting relegation instead of bidding for the title.
“So, I have made it clear to the boys that our form must improve. We intend to surprise many of our rivals on their home grounds,” he said.
Dogo commended the Nassarawa state government for efforts in renovating Lafia Stadium and called for the introduction of local competitions to groom talents for the club.
“A competition like the governor’s cup will do the state and the club a lot of good. It is a good idea. If the government can introduce it, it will help our football,” he added.
Nasarawa United, also known as Solid Miners, beat defending champions, Enyimba of Aba, 2-1 in a Nigeria Professional League Match on Sunday.
