The Lagos State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Wednesday announced that its annual “SWAN Week’’ will hold from July 22 to July 29.
The association’s chairman, Fred Edoreh, said in a statement in Lagos that the event would build on the successes recorded at the last edition.
This year’s edition which is expected to build on last year success will include a day seminar by seasoned journalists.
“In continuing with the event’s tradition, papers will be presented by top sports administrators in Nigeria.
“There will be free medical examination for all members of Lagos SWAN and the Lagos sporting community will also make a return by popular demand,’’ the statement said.
It also said that the checkup and drugs would be provided by Lab Care International Medical Mission, New Jersey, U.S.
According to the statement, the SWAN week will also feature the traditional 5-A-Side football tournament for media houses.
It noted that the Organising Committee, headed by Debo Oshundun, of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had briefed the general congress of the association.
It said that the event would commence after the National SWAN elections in Ilorin, Kwara.
The statement quoted Oshundun as saying that the committee was working round the clock to ensure a successful event.
“The 2016 edition will be better than that of 2015 which was a huge success,’’ Oshuudun said, adding that registration forms for participating teams were already on sale.
“The football event of this 2016 edition of the Winners Golden Bet Lagos SWAN Cup commenced on Monday June 27 at the SWAN secretariat, National Stadium, Lagos.
“Two women’s teams from different media organisations in Lagos will be created and they will equally battle for honours during the Lagos SWAN Week.’’
It said that other supporting brands, Nigeria Sports Awards and Owu Sports Wear International, who had supported the event through the years, were still in partnership with SWAN Cup.
The statement also seized the opportunity to call on well-meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies to come out and support the Lagos SWAN Week.
