Enyimba suffer another CAF CL defeat

Enyimba were beaten 2-1 by Mamelodi Sundowns in a CAF Champions League game played in Pretoria on Wednesday.

The People’s Elephants have lost their first game 1-0 to Zamalek in Port Harcourt.

The Nigerian club had a good start to the game, showing zeal and purpose, with Ifeanyi Onuigbo the major thorn in the flesh of Sundown’s defense.

As the game was heading to a goalless first half, the home side took the lead as Leonard Castro struck three minutes before the break to put Sundowns ahead.

It was a defensive blunder and Castro made the most of Enyimba’s failure to clear their lines with Kelly Kester primarily culpable as the hosts took the lead in deserved fashion.

After the break, Enyimba hit back in the 58th through Dare Ojo whose fearsome volley, off a corner kick,  flew in off the cross bar with the Sundowns goalkeeper, Sandilands Wayne transfixed.

Sustained pressure however led to a deserved second goal for the hosts with Wayne Arendse scoring the winner.

Enyimba have now lost a second consecutive game and will hope for improved performances in reverse fixtures against Zamalek (in Egypt) and Sundowns (in Nigeria) if they are to reach the knock out stages of the competition.
