A knee injury has stopped sprinter Blessing Okagbare from competing in the long jump event of Nigeria’s Rio 2016 Olympics trials in Sapele.
The long jump finals was slatted for Friday, but Okagbare was missing after winning the 100m race on Thursday.
“I don’t want to hurt my knee the more, so I will not take part in the long jump trial, but I will compete in long jump at the Rio Olympics.” She said.
She however came back to come in the 200m where she won the race.
Okagbare is an Olympic and World Championships medalist in the long jump, and a world medallist in the 200m. She also holds the Women’s 100m Commonwealth Games record for the fastest time at 10.85 seconds. Her 100 m best of 10.79 makes her the African record holder for the event.
