Nigeria’s D’Tigers, Argentina clash in two-legged friendly

After the 4-Nation Stankovic Cup tournament in China where the male national basketball team, D’Tigers placed third behind France and Argentina in preparation for next month’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the William Voigts tutored team will today in Las Vegas, USA take on Argentina in a two-legged friendly.

The Sergio Hernandez-tutored Argentina team who beat Nigeria 71-49 at the Stankovic Cup early this month have already named 14 players, including four 2004 Olympic gold medallists Luis Scola, Andres Nocioni, Manu Ginobili and Carlos Delfino for the friendly games.

After the game, both sides, who incidentally are in the same group for the Olympic Games basketball event alongside Croatia, Spain, Lithuania and hosts, Brazil, will have another opportunity on Wednesday to try out the strategies they have been planning towards the Rio Games.

D’Tigers last friendly game will be in Houston against the United States’ team on August 1 in what the Americans have dubbed the USA Basketball Showcase, before they depart to Rio. Their first game is against Argentina on August 7 and they have to finish among the top four to advance to the Quarter-Finals.
