Nigerian triple jumper Otonye Iworima has been dropped from participating at the Rio 2016 Olympics due to injuries.

The 40-year-old, who was to make her first Olympic appearance in Rio was pained by the development, and as a result, dropped an emotionally depressed message on her Facebook wall on Saturday.

“Heartbreaking💔…this is how I feel now that the smoke from the fireworks of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games has cleared and I have to go home and not the Games village…Heartbreaking💔

“I never got the chance to go to the Game due to injuries. Now I have to be a spectator in the fulfillment of my biggest dream…Heartbreaking💔😥

“I am extremely happy for all those who made it, especially the Nigerian track & field team.

“I know what it takes (the sacrifice & pain) to get there, so enjoy the Games!🎉🎉🎉🏅😎…………….without me… Heartbreaking💔

“….but I am very grateful for having come so far. LETS GO ATHLETES!!!”

In 2006 Iworima finished second at the Commonwealth Games and third at the African Championships. For these achievements the Athletics Federation of Nigeria chose her as the Nigerian Female Athlete of the Year.
