Rio Olympics: D’Tigers defeated by Argentina in first match

Nigeria’s D’Tigers suffered a poor start from dunk off to lose 94-66 on Sunday in their first game at the Rio 2016 Olympics men’s basketball encounter.

Argentina took an 11 points lead with Nigeria yet to hit one, before the African champions managed to find the net and ended the first quarter at 22-15.

Ike Diogu led in the Nigerian team with a double-double, making 15 points and 13 rebounds, with 12 of that coming from a defensive point. Diogu was followed by Ebi Ere who made 14 points and 3 rebounds.

Facundo Campazzo led Argentina with 19 points, while flag bearer Luis Scola had 18 for the 2004 gold medalists.

Patricio Garino finished with 15 in front of crowd filled with flag-waving Argentina fans who sang and chanted for much of the night.

Ike Diogu however scored 15 for Nigeria.

Nigeria had defeated Argentina 96-92 in preparation for the Rio Olympics game.

D’Tigers will now regroup to prepare for their game against Lithuania, knowing that victory will inspire them for the remaining fixtures in their group.
