Enyimba crash out of CAF CL after Zamalek loss

Enyimba were on Monday beaten 1-0 by Zamalek in Egypt, and as a result, crashed out of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

The Aba giants, having lost all their previous Group games, needed an outright victory to brighten their chance of qualifying for the semifinal.

Zamalek, who have been dominating and calling goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai to duty on many occasions broke the deadlock when Bassem Morsy struck from the penalty spot, after Enyimba defense was caught lapping leading to a handball inside the danger area.

That goal handed the Egyptian club all three points and a ticket into the next round, as Enyimba were unable to bounce back despite to introduction of top scorer Mfon Udoh in the 75th minute.

Enyimba had sent six of their players to the NPFL tour of Spain. The players however left Spain on Friday and headed straight to Egypt for the game against Zamalek.

The six players are Theophilus Afelokhai, Chima Akas, Chinedu Udoji, Bassey Ezekiel, Joseph Osadiaye, and Oluwadamilare Ojo.
