‘Flamingos need quality friendly’

Former flamingos coach Ismaila Mabo has advocated for quality friendly games for the team ahead of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria are drawn in Group C against Brazil, England and Korea DPR in the tournament that holds in Jordan from September 30 – October 21.

The Nigerians will begin their campaign against Brazil on October 1 at the King Abdullah II International Stadium, Amman.

“The Flamingoes are doing well in their preparations for the World Cup given the current conditions in the country. But they will be better prepared if they can get some more matches against countries in Africa to test more of their readiness and weaknesses for the competition,” he said.

“Our female national teams have not been able to do well when they get to compete against teams outside Africa and this is due to the lack of exposure for the teams. If they can get quality friendly matches, it will boost their morale and bring out more weaknesses in the team.

“Most of the local teams they are playing are well known to them and they will not prove to be the right test needed for the team.”
