Enyimba showed superiority over Kano Pillars with a 2-1 victory in a Match Day 27 fixture of the Nigeria Premier League played in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Enyimba took the lead after ten minutes when Ifeanyi Anaemena’s left footer went past two defenders and Goalkeeper David Obiazor.
But Pillars drew level just one minute after when defender and captain Chinedu Udoji failed to block a header pass that met Adamu Muhammed, who slot the ball past Moses Ocheje into Enyimba’s net.
Rabiu Ali suffered many knocks as he controls the midfield with attempt to put Pillars ahead but the first half would end 1-1.
After the break, it was a balanced restart for both teams and referee Hanna refused to give two penalty calls, one each to the teams on the hour mark.
Paul Aigbogun pulled out a less-convincing Mfon Udoh for Ezekiel Bassey in the 64th minute after Kano Pillars’ Ali has missed a chance to put his side ahead.
Finally, Enyimba got a penalty when Suleiman Usman felled Chuckwudi in the danger area, and Uche John stepped up to it to put the Peoples’ Elephant back in the lead in the 73rd minute.
Jonathan Zikiye was introduced for Madaki who was pulled out due to injury, and Adamu Murtala came on for Usman as the game approached the final eight minute.
Three minutes was added after regulation time but nothing would change as Enyimba earned all three points from the encounter.
Pillars had lost the first leg by same score line in Kano.
Enyimba now have 40 points, one ahead of Pillars.
