Nigerian track and field star Ese Brume has qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after leaping a distance of 6.83m in the women’s Long Jump event at the Golden League Meet in Akure on Monday.
The 2014 Commonwealth gold medalist beat the 6.70m set by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria for the country’s athletes to qualify for the Games.
Finally back in her strides after a huge setback owing to injury, Brume set a new mark, her career’s best and she hopes to keep it high.
Brume was the gold medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She won three medals at the 2013 African Junior Athletics Championships and represented Nigeria at the World Junior Championships in Athletics in 2014.
