As the countdown to the 2017 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon continues, the general public especially artisans, designers, stylists and events managers are very excited with the window to make millions working for the Lagos State Government and other sponsors of the race.
Many of the artisans, designers, stylists and events managers thronged the Marathon Office at the Teslim Balogun Stadium last week.
They were keen to put in for the various jobs that would be on offer to make the 2017 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon even more glamorous than its maiden edition.
However, the General Manager for the marathon, Yusuf Alli stated that the marathon office will officially be opened next week even as he assured all that aside fulfilling its sporting mission; the marathon will also be economically viable.
During the last edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, several Lagosians were empowered making fliers, kits, bill boards and a host of other services.
The marathon also employed several others that served as volunteers and helped in making the Lagos Marathon the second highest ranked race on the African continent in just one year.
Uche Njoku, a carpenter who was employed for street branding during the 2016 marathon praised the Lagos State Government, especially His Excellency Akinwunmi Ambode and the management of Access bank for the initiative
He prayed the marathon will be around for many years as it is giving back to the public in various ways.
Also an American returnee, Taibat Johnson urged other banks in Nigeria to emulate Access bank to invest in avenues that would help in empowering people.
She believes that like the New York Marathon which has over 30 races before the main marathon, if other cooperate bodies emulate Access bank to sponsor other races; it will help a long way to dissuade youths from engaging in vices among other benefits.
“It will be nice to see more companies emulate Access Bank, with initiatives like this, youth who otherwise would have been engaged in drugs and other social vices will be gainfully engaged,” she said.
On his part, the GM for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon said the 2017 edition of the marathon will be bigger and better.
He revealed that there will be a special 5km race for the physically challenged people.
He urged charity organisations to take this unique advantage offered by the Lagos City marathon to enlighten people about their workings and also raise funds to be able to achieve the mission they are set out for.
The 2017 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon now ranked among the top races in the world will hold on Saturday 11 February 2017.
