Rangers International FC of Enugu has vowed to retain its top position in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) till the end of the season.
Reacting to Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, Rangers Media Director, Foster Chime, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday that the team was motivated enough to retain the position.
“We will remain at the top this time for good as we are already mapping out strategies to continue our winning streak in the remaining two matches.
“It has even gone beyond playing as we are sustaining the tempo with prayers and other positive necessities meant to keep the team at the number one position on the league table,’’ he said.
Chime said that the players and technical crew had been motivated by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s pledge of N3 million for every victory in the remaining matches starting from the Sunshine Stars FC encounter.
“The financial motivation is a big boost to make our players give all they have on the pitch for our two remaining matches,’’ he said.
The media director said that Rangers would play Ikorodu United FC of Lagos and El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri on Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 respectively.
“That of Ikorodu United is an away game while we will host El Kanemi Warriors here in Enugu,’’ he said.
The stadium gates were thrown open for fans who watched the Rangers versus Sunshine Stars on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Rangers defeated Sunshine Stars 2- 0 through a brace by striker Bobby Clement which came respectively in the 36th minute and 49th minute.
